LIGHTEN OUR DARKNESS
In October 2007 the Parochial Church Council passed a resolution to replace the lighting in the church because the luminosity was not up to present day standards, it was failing to enhance both fabric and worship services and also it was potentially dangerous.
As a result of this the PCC asked the "Friends" to raise money to contribute towards the project. Tony Wilkinson was appointed "Fundraiser" and this enabled us to apply officially to Government Grant Awarding bodies and we have been successful in these applications.
Estimates have been obtained and the PCC has accepted that from Anthony J.
Smith (Gloucester) Ltd. for £55,000:00 Including the cost of scaffolding. So
far we have raised more than £38,000:00 towards the total cost and we now need
to raise the balance as quickly as we can.
At the invitation of the Parochial Church Council of St. Lawrence the Friends appeal is now being launched to the wider. church at the Congregational meeting on 29 May held to inform church members and other interested parties about the new scheme.
We appreciate that the year has not been good economically and many people are finding it hard but as we have managed to raise such a considerable part of the actual cost we shall be very grateful if any church members will help us by making a donation to the lighting scheme.
From the congregational meeting we are taking the scheme to the Diocesan Advisory Committee for their approval and we are hopeful that the work will start during the autumn - taking about eight weeks to complete from the start date
Thank you for any help you are able to give.
