Sunday Services in Church

7:45am A service of Holy Communion

On the first Sunday of the month the service is taken from the Book of Common Prayer and thereafter from Common Worship. The service is without music, though hymns are incorporated at major festivals.

(There is little time for fellowship possible as the Roman Catholics then hold their Mass at 8:45am)

10:30am Parish Communion

On three Sundays of the month the service of sung communion is taken from the relevant liturgical books of the season from Common Worship. The organist is in residence and the choir is there. There is normally an anthem and the hymns come from ‘Hymns: Old & New’, reflecting traditional to contemporary. The laity plays an active part in the service, both reading, leading the prayers and the peace. Eucharistic Ministers accompany the Ordained Minister and their role is that of a traditional Deacon and the parts in the service associated with that role.

We run both a Junior Church in the Parish Rooms for those up to 11 and a Youth Church in the vestry for those aged over 11. The programme for Junior Church is normally based on the gospel reading for the day and Youth Church normally has its own theme covering the Sundays of the month. Youth Church joins the congregation in church during the offertory hymn and Junior Church come in time to receive a blessing or communion.

Refreshments and fellowship in church once worship has finished.

10:30am All-Age Service

Normally on the second Sunday (though the date may change reflecting any particular festivals) on the month one of our three all age teams both devise and lead worship. The service is either a service of the word or communion and the music comes from our Music Group.

Refreshments take place once the worship has finished

12:15pm Baptisms

These services normally take place on the second Sunday of the month and in a suitable service lasting for forty minutes with hymns baptisms take place.

6:30pm Evening Worship

Three Sundays out of four our evening worship takes place based loosely on Common Worship. The sermons reflect a wide variety of Christian themes both within Scripture and having an eye on current issues and concerns. Hymns again are incorporated and reflect a wide repertoire. A few members of the laity give such sermons during the year.

When the all age service takes place in the morning, the service in the evening is the BCP Evensong service, with the choir in residence. No refreshments are offered afterwards.
